Alex Woodmason, a Third Dan in Tang Soo Do, is the Kyo Sa, Chief Instructor for the Cornwall Tang Soo Do Academy. He has been practicing the art of Tang Soo Do since 1992 and is also an experienced Primary School Teacher that specialises in Physical Education.

In 2000 Mr Woodmason took his First Dan (Dan No. 38315). From

1999 to 2002 he was teaching Tang Soo Do in Cornwall under the

leadership of Master Dove. In September 2002 he took his second

Dan. In October 2006 he progressed to the rank of Third Dan with

the Tang Soo Do Moo Duk Kwan Federation of Great Britain.

Mr Woodmason studied at the College of St Mark and St John,

Plymouth, for a Bachelor in Primary Education Honors Degree (B.Ed

Hons) with Physical Education as a main subject. On completing the

degree in 2002 he taught in an inner city primary school in east

London. As well as continuing his Tang Soo Do training in London,

he boxed in the Peacock Gym with a senior ABA coach.  In 2004 he

then returned to Cornwall where he now teaches in a local primary

school.

In August 2007 he had the rare life opportunity to meet and train with Grand Master Ah Po in California, USA. During this visit Grand Master Ah Po taught some of the latter day refinements of the curriculum, including both internal and external breathing styles through the Yuk Ro and Chil Sung Hyung. This was a fantastic experience and opportunity to learn about the history and Tang Soo Do curriculum,  as well as to develop an understanding of energy from one of the most senior Grand Masters in Tang Soo Do, and who is famed for his demonstrations of using internal energy.

Mr Woodmason believes that Tang Soo Do provides an excellent opportunity for people of all ages to develop their physical and mental well-being. Many experienced Masters explain the importance of developing the external and internal side of the art - he is also a firm believer of this philosophy and has been studying the Chinese art of cultivating energy through Chi Kung (Ki Gong) since 1999. This helps with the teaching and understanding of the Chil Sung and Yuk Ro Hyung where Ki is developed through the Choongaryu and Nehgong practice of timing breathing and movement.

After eighteen years of Tang Soo Do, in September 2009, Mr Woodmason set up his own school to teach traditional Tang Soo Do in Cornwall.  He is pleased to be able to offer students a curriculum that includes latter day refinements of the art, as introduced by the Founder himself, Great Grand Master Hwang Kee.  These refinements include the development of the neh gung (internal), weh gung (Moo Do - fighting applications) and choongar ryu (middle way) aspects of the curriculum.

He is also proud to have established an affiliation with the Tang Soo Do Moo Duk Kwan Federation of Great Britain.
